East Coast Greenway
East Coast Greenway
The East Coast Greenway (official website) is a developing trail system, spanning nearly 3,000 miles as it winds its way between Canada and Key West, linking all the major cities of the Eastern Seaboard. Over 25 percent of the route is already on safe, traffic-free paths.
In Philadelphia the ECG will connect the Delaware and the Schuylkill via Spring Garden Street, overlapping on the Schuylkill with the Schuylkill River Trail. Several sections of its route, such as the Schuylkill River Trail at Schuykill Banks and the Cobbs Creek Trail, are already built. Other sections are under construction or still seeking financing.
When complete, Philadelphia will be a major part of a multi-use active transporation highway, facilitating commuting, recreational cycling, walking, and running, and connecting up and down the Eastern Seaboard.
